The LSA360 pole adapter for Leica DISTO™ D3, D5 and D8 is used on set up on poles with diameters between 11 - 35mm (0.45" - 1.35") or on the Leica tripod TRI 100".
The Disto pole adapter positions the back-side of the Disto laser distance meter correctly when taking angled measurements. Regardless of the vertical angle, the back of the instrument will remain positioned at exacly the same location.
The difference between using a normal tripod and the Disto pole adapter is illustrated below.
